Passed into the light and into the arms of his loving God on February, 18, 2019, he was 83 years old.

Born in Harrisburg on August 4, 1935 and remained in the area his whole life. After graduating from Harris High he went to work at the Evangelical Press. He retired after 43 years as a pressman and foreman at the Hargro Packaging Co. He served in the National Guard.

Sports were a big part of his life. He was a coach for little league baseball and a referee for many years.  He loved the game and was a huge Cardinals fan. He also had a fondness for Penn State Football. If there was a game on, he would invite his friends over to watch.

He loved the outdoors and spent time at his cabin in Pine Grove Furnace and liked to go hunting and fishing.

He was a sweet wonderful man who above everything loved his family, friends and his church. He attended Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Enola.  He was an active member and was on the board of trusties. He was also a very gifted singer. He sang in the choir and sang many solos, his favorite being on Christmas Eve.

Married to his wife of 64 years, Arlene (Maulfair) Gontz, and had four children; Steve, Cheryl (Roger) Rowe, Brian, and Michelle.

Saturday, Feb, 23, 2019 the viewing starts at 9:30 AM followed by a Celebration of Life service at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt Zion Dr, Enola, PA 17025. A light lunch will be served at the church after interment.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to go to the church.

The Sullivan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gontz family.

  1. TO ARLENE AND FAMILY: DIXIE AND I SAW THE NOTICE OF HIS PASSING. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD COMPANY FROM OUT OF TOWN THAT WEEKEND AND COULDN’T MAKE THE SERVICE. PLEASE KNOW THAT THE FAMILY WAS LIFTED UP IN PRAYER AT THE MT.GILEAD UMC IN SHERMANS DALE,PA. AFTER THE SERVICE, A WOMAN CAME UP TO ME AND ASKED HOW WE KNEW THE FAMILY? SHE KNEW THE CHILDREN AND HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS MY HOME CHURCH FROM 1947 TO 1968. AFTER MARRIAGE, WE MOVED WITH IBM TO: VA, TX, NJ AND BACK TO PA IN 1984.
